THE PLATFORM ORCAS.PT IS THREE YEARS OLD!

Can you believe it? Orcas.pt is officially three years old today!

​It all kicked off on October 4, 2022, with one simple goal: creating a WhatsApp group to quickly share orca locations and help sailors safely get through the Orcas Alley. What a crazy ride it’s been since then!

​We’ve come a long, long way from that first little group. We’ve grown into a truly dedicated community across all our chat channels. This super-fast info sharing and helping each other out is still the heart of everything we do.

​Sure, keeping a citizen-supported platform running across such huge stretches of ocean is a big challenge, but honestly, the non-stop positive feedback we get every day tells us it’s all worth it. We're stoked to be known worldwide in the sailing community as the go-to spot for safe passage info in this area.

​Our website and maps are now essential—they gather all the crucial data and make our Orca Encounter Best Practices easy for everyone to use.

​This platform isn't just talk; it's making a real difference out there. Thanks to the awesome vigilance and commitment of our members, many boats have completed a safe passage through the Orcas Alley. That means fewer incidents, which protects both their vessels and the amazing orcas we share the sea with!

​Plus, we keep building stronger ties with the scientific community. Getting a better understanding of orca behavior and giving you guys evidence-based "dos and don'ts" is the smartest way to support sailors and make sure we all coexist responsibly.
