Attack

Arriving along the Algarve Coast on a passage from Madeira heading to Lagos. We were warned about orca activity on arrival by a rib that had pulled up next to us. We had just taken down sails and were motoring to shallow water when we were attacked by a pod of approximately 8 Orcas. They hit the rudder several times and what appeared to be or felt like one hit on the hull or keel. The attack lasted about 6 minutes. During the attack the boat was swung in several circles all while attempting to maneuver away from the pod. While steering was slightly compromised there appears to be no breaks in the hull and no water into the boat. The boat was somewhat steerable during the attack and we attempted to leave the area several times. The rudder post appears ok, but the rudder has not been inspected.
